Environment requirments like temperature, humidity: We will have to cool the PMT matrix. Air cooling may be sufficient, but also water cooling may be an option. We assume that the humidity will be controlled in the target hall in any case. The aerogel radiator will be flushed continuously with dry nitrogen.
during installation: no special requirements
during operation: no special requirements
Maintenance
How often will the subdetector be accessed, every downtime, never? No regular access is required. However, dead PMTs may have to be replaced.
How do you plan to replace parts: The detector will be held by a support frame. Simple replacements, e.g. individual PMTs will be done in situ. Complicated repairs, e.g. a mirror or the aerogel radiator, will require to move the detector out. It is expected that this will happen very rarely and that a crane can be used. Should the rest of the detector system be mounted on rails, this should also be considered for the ForwardRich.
Space:
Storage: Replacement parts need a little bit of space. If the detector will be used as dual radiator RICH with C4F10 as gas, space for a gas system is required. This includes also space for spare gas bottle.
Mounting Area: The mirrors of the ForwardRich will have to be carefully aligned and the PMTs will have to be installed. This will require a mounting area of estimated 5mx5m size for several weeks.
Electronics: The HERMES RICH has 4000 channels, it can be expected that the ForwardRICH will be in the same range. We will try and use standard solutions.
Utilities (cooling machines): Air or water cooling for the PMT matrixs
Resources:
Purifiers: not needed, but gas system for C4F10 required
Cables: Area of cables leaving the detector Hopefully not crucial at this point, as detector is part of the forward spectrometer, not inside the target spectrometer.
Support
Weight of the Detector The weight of the detector is estimated to be about 8000 kg. This is based on the weight of the HERMES RICH of 4200 kg and an external support structure.
Support Ideas Support frame similar to the one used by LHCb RICH.
Support Points Detector Box
Veto areas, where other subsystems are forbidden to connect to: Nothing special.
Aligment Optical and mechanical. Special care will have to be taken with the mirror alignment.
