Charmonium and Exotics Working Group Meeting
Date: April 3, 2014
Participants: Anastasia Karavdina, Dima Melnychuk, Elisa Fioravanti, Frank Nehrling, Klaus Goetzen, Miriam Fritsch, Ralf Kliemt, Jaceck Biernat, Fritz-Herbert Heinsius, Diego Bettoni, Bertram Kopf, Marc Pelizaeus, Malte Albrecht, Lu Cao, Lars Schmidt
At the beginning of the meeting Marc gave a short introduction to the questionnaire of the Scrutiny Group. He also summarized the results for the benchmark studies, which have been performed for the Physics Book. A vital discussion followed about the feasability of the covered channels in view of the reduced luminosity (factor 1/10 or 1/100) during the start-up phase of PANDA. There was consense in the group, that the expected cross sections of charmonia above the D Dbar threshold are too low to study states in this mass region. Klaus commented that the given rate estimates do not include online filter efficiencies, which have not been determined yet.
Mass and width scans of states below the D Dbar threshold and the X(3872) during the start-up phase have been identified as a possible option, which should be studied. In particular a scan for the h_c and X(3872) should be studied. eta_c and eta_c(2S) should be studied to include hadronic decay modes such as phi phi, omega omega, rho rho and K Kbar pi in the study. During the discussion the importance of a barrel EMC for channels including neutrals as well as the reconstruction of J/psi -> e+ e- was pointed out. J/psi -> mu+ mu- will be included in all studies.
The discussion about light hadron spectroscopy was focusing on possible glueball searches. Studies related to the search for the 2++ glueball in formation and production will be caried out. A pbar p -> phi phi scan in formation near the phi phi threshold will be studied. In a second analysis the state should be studied in pbar p -> Glueball eta with Glueball -> phi phi, omega omega, eta(') eta(') and K Kbar pi. It has been suggested to study pbar p -> omega pi0, phi pi0. These reactions could shade light on the pbar p annihilation process and give information about the contributing angular momenta in the initial state, which is of importance for Partial Wave Analyses.
Marc will compile a list of channels to be studied and will contact analysts interested to work on these studies. Resources at GSI, Mainz and Bochum (if the Fastsim can be installed on SL6) can be used. Christof, Anastasia, Dima, Elisa, Malte and Torsten Schroeder volunteered to take over one of the analyses.
At the end of the meeting organizational things have been discussed. The group will use for future communication the PANDA forum. A Wiki page will be set up by Marc. This should give an overview of the status of the analyses for the scrutiny process. It was decided to have weekly meetings during the scrutiny process. To avoid overlaps with meetings of the other physcis groups, the meetings will be held on every Friday at 11:30 am.
The next meeting was scheduled for April 11, 2014.
