Notes PID-TAG meeting 8.8.2008 present: Avetik Hayrapetyan, Klaus Goetzen, Bertram Kopf, Quirin Weitzel, Valery Rodionov, and Carsten Schwarz The actual version if the PID-TAG report is tagged with v0.5 in the repository (pid-tag/tags/v0.5) Due to the absence of Aida Galoyan and Maria Pia Bussa, TOF and muon topics have not been discussed. Klaus Goetzen gave examples how to present the PID capabilities from fast simulation. For the EMC he showed E/p ratios for e/pi separation. For energies larger than 1 GeV five standard deviations separation were achieved. For the other detectors he presented the PID problems. The following discussion between Klaus, Bertram, Carsten, and Quirin touched the following issues: -for the particle combinations to present the pion/Kaon channel is important to show. -the PID-TAG defines the requirements for the detector eg. the EMC. Therefore for its PID capability the influence of material (conversion) in front of the EMC should be studied. How much will be the separation deteriorated if the barrel DIRC (17% X0, close) or/and a TOF wall (15% X0, not so close) ist in front of the EMC. -the PID-TAG shows subdetector options and consequences of combinations of subdetectors. It will not fix a default combination. Next meeting Friday, 22nd of August 2008. Best regards Carsten
