Irradiation Tests of Electronic Components

The irradiation tests were carried out at Gießen Irradiation Facility, where the ICs were irradiated with a Co60-source, which emits two photons with an energy of 1.17 and 1.33 MeV by its decay. The source has an activity of 1013 Bq, thus a rate of about 215 Gy/h at a distance of 20 cm and 54 Gy/h at a distance of 40 cm, respectively, can be achieved. The table below shows the results of the irradiation tests:

Parts with 2 values for the total dose where irradiated 19 hours at a distance of 20 cm (215 Gy/h, 4 parts) and 40 cm (54 Gy/h, 8 parts), respectively. The given "died at" values are the minimum dose these parts withstood! In particular the maximum dose which the humidity sensors HIH-4000 withstand seems to have a large spread! In out measurement some sensors withstood a total dose of 1.6 kGy or even more, but most of these sensors died at a dose of 550 to 700 Gy
