3. PID TAG Meeting (Vienna, 4.09.2006)

Agenda

Results and Decisions

  • Introduction
Georg underlined that there is still some information lacking that the PID TAG needs to deliver the results. He asked the responsible of the detectors to (let) work out parametrizations for the detector responses, i.e. the separation power. Thus the members of the TAG have a full overview of the properties of each detector and the capabilities of the combined detector system.

  • Status of the Muon Counters
Marco showed the aim and the results of the simulations for the Muon Counters in Torino. He pointed out that they don't want to wait for a full simulation but to give parametrizations for the particle separation that the PID TAG can work with.

  • Disc-Dirc Separation Power
Klaus showed results of his calculations concerning the separation Power of the Disc-DIRC in the magnetic field

  • Global PID for PANDA
Ideas for a Global PID analysis at PANDA Bjoern showed the approaches from Hermes and Belle. Both use a likelihood method. He claimed that the Maximum likelihood seem to be promissing but that it needs response functions from the PID detectors. In the end he asked for people interested to form a study group to work on Global PID, but no volunteers were found yet.

  • Discussion
It got clear that the informations the PID TAG needs have to come soon and have to be parametrizations rather than full simulations.

  • Tasks
    • Marco Maggiora will work out parametrizations for particle separation with the Muon Counters
    • Each detector responsible is asked to put such a "first" but very helpful result on the Wiki page

  • Next VRVS
    • will take place about 4 weeks after this meeting
